# Billing

This section covers what your organization pays **Suger** for using Insulin, and how that
figure is arrived at. Everything is consumption-based: there is no seat count, no tier and
no subscription, so an organization that uses nothing pays nothing. Every organization
starts on **pay as you go** with **$100 of free credit each month**, and no payment method
is needed to spend it.

It is not about billing the customers you sell to. That is [Billing](/billing/), where you
meter, price, invoice, and collect from marketplace buyers — a separate ledger, and the one
most often confused with this one. [How You Get Paid](/get-started/how-you-get-paid/)
separates the two flows if you are unsure which you are looking at.

Everything described here lives in one place: **Settings → Billing**, reachable from the
Suger console and from the **Settings** app inside the [Insulin desktop](/insulin/).
Any member of a seller, reseller, or partner organization can open it.

## Start here

1. **[How billing works](/insulin/billing/overview/)** — the two billing models, the monthly
free credit, the order credit is spent in, and why a mid-month figure is an estimate.
2. **[What is metered](/insulin/billing/metering/)** — the six resources Suger measures,
the unit each is measured in, how they are priced, and what is deliberately not billed.

## Watch what you are spending

- **[Reading your usage](/insulin/billing/usage/)** — pivot one period by resource, user,
app, model or provider; filter it; and read the daily spend chart. Every pivot totals the
same amount, which is why unattributed consumption gets a row of its own.

## Keep it under control

- **[Payment, limits, and top-ups](/insulin/billing/spend-controls/)** — add a payment
method through Stripe's hosted page, set a monthly spending limit, and turn on automatic
top-up so a task is not interrupted by a balance nobody was watching.
- **[When AI pauses](/insulin/billing/when-ai-pauses/)** — the four reasons requests stop,
what keeps working in each case (files and running sandboxes always do), and how service
  resumes.

## Reference

- **[Billing FAQ](/insulin/billing/faq/)** — credit expiry, BYOK, why the usage table can
look emptier than the balance, storage billed on the month's peak, and refunds.

## Scope and limits

:::info
**Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax.** There is no other currency, and the billing
platform does not calculate tax.

**The console does not sell credit or list invoices.** Credit is added by automatic top-up
against a saved payment method, or granted by Suger. Invoices are issued for a closed period
once Suger has enabled invoicing on the account, and are not browsed in the console; contact
[support@suger.io](mailto:support@suger.io) for a copy.

**Billing model, debt limit and suspension are set by Suger, not by you.** Your own controls
are the monthly spending limit and automatic top-up. Changing a billing model takes effect
at the start of the next month, never mid-period.
